first saturdays open mic

I host an Open Mic on the First Saturdays of every month at my favorite neighborhood Coffee House, The Brothers K, on the corner of Main & Hinman in Evanston.

Sign up begins at 5:30pm and the performances are from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Musicians are allowed two songs each (or 10 minutes - whichever comes first) and over the past four years we've been treated to the sounds of guitar, banjo, ukulele, upright bass, cello, violin, saxophone, keyboard, melodica, harmonica, and lots of original music by some of Chicago's most talented musicians!

We have a simple 4-Channel PA with 2 lines for instruments and 2 Sure SM58 Vocal Mics on boom stands to accommodate performers.

UPDATE for 2012: After four years I've decided to take a break from the hosting of First Saturdays. I am, however, continuing to promote, attend, and perform at our Open Mics. My good friend Dave Newman is taking over hosting duties for most of 2012. Most know him as a regular who has been bringing his unique talent and personality to First Saturdays for many years now so you can expect Dave to continue in the same spirt you've come to expect.
